Hello guys; my name is Angie. Layla is one of my many musings but also one of my very first. Well, to be more specific, Layla is a branch off of my very first DC OC, Melissa Kyle. Someone had copied Melissa’s backstory at one point and someone else had used the same name (didn’t know I existed) and so I changed Melissa’s name to Layla and altered her backstory. Eventually I got nostalgic for the old Melissa and decided to make a new character named Layla to be her cousin instead. Layla’s backstory is very dark and has a number of trigger warnings. If at anytime you feel uncomfortable, please tell me. I’m very open to crossovers and random tags, so please feel free to @ me whenever boredom strikes. I like to write action, obviously fantasy, and fluff. I’ve been on Twitter rp for quite some time now, but I spend a lot of my time on Instagram. I’ve made and lost contact with friends over the years, but I hope to write with everyone, even if we’ve just met! Role Play has been my sanctuary and a place where I can develop my skills as a writer. I’ve been rping since 2008 and hope to continue for more years to come. ♥️Something that should be noted. R!pe & Abuse of a minor, malnutritionLayla Julienne Kyle is the twin daughter of Simon & Magdalene Burton (nee Kyle). Their father was an investment banker in Gotham who crossed paths with the wrong men. Just before they were born, her parents were taken by Black Mask. Simon was tortured until he died. Black Mask then took out Simon's eves and force-fed them to Magdalene, causing her to go insane and into early labor. Selina Kyle arrived in time to rescue her sister and returned her to Simon's apartment after Magdalene insisted she was okay. No one knows what happened to the first of the twins, and it’s believed he was born and killed shortly before Magdalene was rescued. Layla was born in a home birth; it was too late to go to the hospital. After Layla's birth, Magdalene started leaving the apartment for hours, leaving her child alone and without care. Suddenly, Magdalene stopped returning altogether, and the child would have indeed died had she not been found by a neighbor. Child Protective Services held Layla at the Gotham General NICU ward until they were confident she would make it past a few months old. However, Layla was a fighter, and she survived. Survival. It's how Layla could describe most of her life, not that she could remember the NICU. After months in the NICU, she was finally placed into the Martha & Thomas Wayne Orphanage and the Matron's care, Sally Beckett. Sally cared not for children, but the city paid her for each child she "took care of," so she made quite a lot off the suffering of orphans. Instead, the oldest girl, Lindsey, cared for the younger children, even Layla. Days, weeks, months, and even years passed, and Layla was continuously overlooked. When Layla was six years old, she was fostered by the Duval family. A middle-class couple yet wealthy through family money. They had two young boys about her age and wanted to see if things would work out. Things didn't. Mr. Duval was the nicer of the two parents and cared about Layla; he cared for her when his sons were too rough during flag football Saturdays. Mrs. Duval believed everything her sons said Layla was responsible for, and she accepted their lies. It was her final decision to return Layla to the orphanage when she had been told by her son's that Layla had broken a vase.The second family that fostered
Layla took her in a week after the Duval's returned her, and this family was called the Ryan's. Things were going well, but Mr. Ryan and Mrs. Ryan began to talk about having a child of their own by trying fertility shots/ pills. When Mrs. Ryan finally became pregnant, they returned Layla to the orphanage on account of not being able to handle having two children.The Suttmann-Palmers were the nicer of the three families that Layla had stayed with. The couple was married, but Mrs. Suttmann did not take Mr. Palmer's last name when they officially became husband and wife. When they picked seven-year-old Layla up from the orphanage, she distrusted them because she developed acute abandonment issues. Mr. Palmer assured her they wouldn't leave her, and she believed him up until she later overheard them talking about having their own child. Layla thought that once they had the baby, she would be returned to the orphanage, and Layla wouldn't be able to handle being sent back again, so she left Mr. Palmer's house through a window in the middle of the night. The Suttmann-Palmers spent all night looking for her when they learned she was missing.
However, at three am the following day, they got into a car crash. Both passed away, as well as their undeveloped son. Layla would never learn of this until she was much older. Now living on the streets, seven-and-a-half-year-old Layla found an alley to live in. The alley was occupied by a war veteran named Joseph Whitmore and a young girl named Celia. Layla was welcomed by the pair to live in the alley with them, so she spent the next year and a half pickpocketing off passers-by to buy food. Celia went missing after half a year during Layla's time in the alley, and soon after, Joseph passed away, leaving Layla all alone yet again.Shortly before her ninth birthday, Layla was approached by a man who claimed to be her father. He told her to call him "Pendragon." Pendragon took her to a lovely penthouse apartment where he clothed, bathed, and fed her excellent food. After a couple of weeks of living with him, when she was comfortable and her guard was down, Pendragon drugged her and took her to a second location. A building with many rooms housing at least 20 or more women. Pendragon's kindness was
replaced with harsh actions and threats. While living in this new place, Layla was "broken in" and physically and mentally abused. She was raped repeatedly by Pendragon and then bartered to "Johns" as a prostitute. Each time she was forced, she'd cry, even if it meant getting hit, cut, or burned later. It didn't matter how young she was to them. Layla had tried to escape twice with the help of Candi the first time & Trixi the second time. Both times they were caught, and Candi & Trixi were murdered for helping in her attempts. After nine months of suffering through the abuse, Layla was ready to give up. When it came close to a year, a man named Jason infiltrated Pendragon's prostitution ring. He gave Layla his phone to call the police and then put a bullet in “Pendragon's” forehead. It didn't take long for the police to raid the building, and in the chaos, Layla escaped. Layla returned to living in her alley and stealing to buy her next meal.Layla eventually tried to escalate when she couldn't steal enough money to buy food. Her escalation went terribly, and th owner of the butcher shop she attempted to rob chased her and would have hurt her severely had it not been for Catwoman. It took weeks before Layla could trust Selina. Eventually, the ten-year-old grew comfortable around her enough to accept Selina's offer to live with her. When she was twelve, she found Kitrina Falcone's catsuit in Selina's closet and talked to Selina about becoming the next Catgirl. At first, Selina was reluctant because of whatever traumatic experience Layla was hiding from her, but the child's determination dominated her fears. Layla became the second to wear the Catgirl suit and bear its mantle. Layla was Catgirl for two years until she recognized the voice of Pendragon, who she thought was dead. As it turned out, Jason had killed Pendragon's second. It didn't take long for memories to flood back and retraumatize her. In that instant, she couldn't control her emotions and attacked Pendragon. After fatally injuring him, she returned to Catwoman's penthouse, where she gathered her things and ran away. She resurfaced when she was fourteen to attend Gotham High under the alias Ellie Dubrovna and a new moniker; she is now a defender rather than a thief.
